Along with the winter season comes an assortment of holidays and comfort foods. While it can be a time of reconnecting with friends and family, it can also be a time of sneaky weight gain and low self-control because unhealthy foods are everywhere you go!

Remember, it is possible to stay on track no matter what life throws at you—including the holidays and the comfort foods of winter! If you do happen to indulge a bit too much, remember that it is only temporary and don’t let yourself get in a cycle of eating unhealthy, empty calories. It may seem like a good idea at the time, but overdoing it just isn’t worth it. You’ll have to work that much harder to reach your goals. When it comes to food (and most things in life), moderation is everything and is even more important during social gatherings.

Here are some easy to implement tips to help keep your goals on track this holiday season (or any time!):

  • Stay Hydrated & Rested—These two things are the foundation for a healthy lifestyle both physically and mentally
    • Staying properly hydrated will help moderate your hunger. It’s very common for people to mistake thirst for hunger—an easy way to gain unwanted weight!
  • Plan ahead—don’t go to parties hungry, this is the quickest way to derail your efforts.
    • Having a healthy meal or snack before you go will help prevent your will power from collapsing. It’s ok to treat yourself, but remember moderation is key!
  • Pre and Post Party Workouts are a great way to stay on track.
    • If you know you’re going to attend a holiday party one evening, schedule a workout that morning and the following morning to help keep you mentally and physically charged and focused on your goals.
  • When your schedule gets hectic, always have a healthy snack or meal option so you can avoid fast food and still fuel your body.
    • Skipping meals can do more harm than good and will leave you feeling weak and stressed out. The protein packed ultrashake is always ready to go and does not need refrigeration—just throw it in your bag, add some cold water when you’re ready to drink it, and go!
  • Be sure to consume plenty of healthy foods throughout the day. While holiday meals and comfort foods are tasty, they can also be full of empty calories and very few nutrients[1].
    • Proper nutrition will help keep you powered for your hectic schedule and can help keep you healthy during cold and flu season. Make sure you get your vitamins and nutrients through natural, whole foods—and ultrashake!

Perhaps one of the easiest ways to derail your efforts for health and nutrition is over indulging on alcohol. While a glass of wine with dinner may be fine, drinking can lower your self-control when it comes to food. It often becomes very easy to snack at social events and you may experience increased cravings while you’re drinking, as well as the day after while you’re recovering[2]—remember to drink responsibly and think twice before you reach for those extra cookies! Keeping an ultra shake in your work bag, gym bag, car, or purse is a great way to make sure you have a healthy option no matter where you may end up—now that’s a healthy drinking habit!
